Linear Signal March 1st 2006 Displacement of a metal component by as little as a tenth of a millimetre can be key to fine positioning, or controlling the steel sheets on presses and stamping machines. New analogue indictive proximity switches from ifm electronic are said to have longer sensing ranges, good linearity and to address the drawbacks of earlier generations.
The switches safely detect even the tiniest of changes in distance and provide a linear analogue signal - depending on the version - with a voltage output (0 to 10V) or current output (4 to 20mA).
A key feature is the high repeatability of less than +-2% and linear output characteristics better than +-3% of the final value of the measuring range over the entire operating range.
