Achieving greater control July 1st 2005 The Cognis plant at Hythe has achieved tighter control and greater consistency since opting for a DeltaV digital automation system from Emerson Process Management.
There are two multifunctional hydroxy monomer production units at the site. MMU2 used to be controlled by stand alone controllers and MMU3 by a Rosemount System 3 process automation system from Emerson. Certain components within the controllers on MMU2 were becoming difficult to source, leading to concerns about plant availability. Also, one of the site control rooms had to be moved and the cost of hard wiring the controllers into a new location was prohibitive.
DeltaV was chosen as an economic solution. The existing site local area network enables engineering and operator stations in the new control room to communicate with the controllers in the termination room of the plant.
Use of the DeltaV system also prepares the plant for future expansion of PlantWeb with foundation fieldbus technology. More articles from Emerson Process Management: |
