Speedy deburr
March 1st 2007

Ford Australia has solved the problem of removing burrs in cross-drilled holes by using an Orbitool in the production of camshafts. The device is available in the UK from Finishing Techniques and Jonathan Dean, MD, believes it can benefit all engineers who struggle with difficult to remove burrs yet need to maintain high volume production.

The Orbitool allows intersecting holes to be drilled and then deburred and, importantly, this takes place on the same machine.

The turnkey system for Ford has automated materials handling and a floor-to-floor time of 60sec.

The tool is said to quickly pay for itself in saved production time.
