Oil mist separator system
March 1st 2006

The DaimlerChrysler Group has become the latest automotive giant planning to build Alfa Lavel's AlfDex Oil Mist Separator into its diesel engines.

The Alfdex Oil Mist Separator is claimed to solve the problems of engine wear and power loss caused by dirty ventilated exhaust gases being returned to the inlet of diesel engines. A development of Alfa Laval's core centrifugal separation technology, it is fitted to a diesel engine's crankcase breathing channel to collect and separate oil droplets and carbon deposits and return them to the oil sump.

Sealed for life, the unit is engineered to match the working life of the engine to which it is fitted.

The AlfDex is said to be highly efficient, removing 98% of all impurities and also fulfils all current and anticipated future legislation related to crankcase ventilation. It has a life expectancy of 20,000 hours, roughly equivalent to 1 million km on the road.
