Unmanned mill/turn centre package March 1st 2005 Afifth Colchester Tornado has been bought by Roger Metcalfe of Cleveland Components. The ‘lights-out’ package gives an unmanned running capability and has enabled the company to secure a £40 000 a year contract that it would not have been able to quote for before the purchase.
Colchester Sales convinced Roger Metcalfe that he should think wider than two-axis turning and that for his type of parts the Tornado 120M would be the best solution, even though the mill/turn centre package was more expensive than a two-axis machine.
For unmanned running, the company can program the machine using ColCam off-line software, set up the tooling, tool monitoring limits and production scheduling software, program the Renishaw probing routines, load the press bar, press the button and let it go.
