Better manufacturing control May 1st 2006 Construction equipment manufacturer Thwaites has laid the foundations for further success by investing in a new shot blasting plant.
The firm which specialises in making dumper trucks, has ordered the new equipment from Wheelabrator Group. It will be used for descaling and preparing the surface of over 19 000 manufactured fabrications a year before they are painted, an important process to ensure a top quality finish on all products.
Bringing this work inhouse will give Thwaites better control over manufacturing and the flexibility to process parts whenever required, leading to improved turnaround times and the creation of new jobs.
David Reed, engineering manager at Thwaites, said: 'We believe the cost and time savings it offers will mean it will pay for itself in less than three years.'
