Costs reduced March 1st 2004 High levels of accuracy are key in the manufacture of gas burners, manifolds and injectors, which is why Leeds-based Bray Burners chose to invest in a Sodick wire EDM and EDM hole drill.
Supplied by Sodi-Tech EDM, the two machines at Bray are used to make and repair punch holders, dies and stripper plates. The wire EDM machine replaces an older model. However, the hole drill was bought to radically cut the costs and time involved in manufacturing dies which used to be hand-made and took up to three days to make.
The hole drill means that dies can now be machined directly in hardened steel. Accuracy is assured and the entire process takes just one hour. Dies are now treated almost as consumables, where previously requests for new ones would result in overtime and lost production on other tasks. More articles from Sodi-Tech EDM Ltd: |
