Cutting fluid helps boost machine up-time
September 1st 2007

Furmanite specialises in onsite and on-line plant and pipeline maintenance, helping customers achieve maximum asset up-time. It has offices worldwide servicing a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, power generation, chemical and petrochemical, pulp and paper, aerospace, iron and steel, and food processing.

At its Cumbria site Furmanite (Aero) International produces components for these industries on a range of CNC lathes and milling machines. To ensure the machines achieve maximum up-time, the company uses Ultracut 255 which is an EP soluble oil cutting fluid from Rocol's Ultracut 200 series.

Ultracut 200 metalworking fluids have high mineral oil content and form milky white emulsions. They leave a light oily protective film on machine tools/components to ensure a high degree of residual corrosion protection and lubrication during machining, and are suitable for cutting operations.

The long-life, low foaming Ultracut 255 used by Furmanite can be diluted up to 40:1, although the ratio used by Furmanite is 30:1.

It has been designed for medium/difficult cutting operations and is suitable for cast iron, aluminium, copper alloys, lowmedium carbon steels and hardened alloys. It can also be used for grinding.

Rocol works in partnership with its customers to improve efficiency and reduce costs. By offering its Ultracare programme, the company says it is possible for users to save up to 40% in metal working fluid spend from a reduction in fluid use, tool wear, downtime, labour and disposal.
