LMT has developed a new generation of multi-functional high performance indexable carbide cutting tools for combined turning, facing and drilling from solid and boring using a single tool holder and insert. The Pentatec tool incorporates 'optimised chip yield' in stationary or rotating applications, and the smallest 'Trigon' shaped carbide insert in the tool range is also capable of drilling 8mm diameter holes from solid. LMT says the Pentatec range can perform the same machining tasks as five different ISO style tools, saving up to 30% on cycles times as there is no need to change tools. Machine setting times, tool inventory and stocking requirements are also reduced.
