Lines head east
July 1st 2007

An American multi-national has awarded a contract, worth £850 000, to Atkin Automation. The turnkey package comprises two automated production lines for the manufacture of shelving for use in European supermarkets. It will be UK designed and made, but is destined for the Czech Republic.

Equipment will include a 10 000kg decoiler, a motorised straightener with photobeam loop control and a servo roll feed. Notching units, hydraulic shears and end benders, conveyor system and stack and de-stack units will be incorporated to ensure an output of about 10 shelves/min.

The second line will be used to make shelf 'stiffeners'.
