Assembly and automation specialist Modular Automation International is to offer a free consultation service to help manufacturers design products that can be assembled more efficiently.

Manufacturers will have the opportunity of sending their staff to Modular's factory in Small Heath Birmingham to discuss new product designs with senior members of the team. The aim will be to draw on Modular's 30 years' experience and assembly knowhow to identify design features that could have an impact on future production.

"We want to get together with manufacturers at an early stage when they're designing new products," says Modular's operations manager, Mark Higgins (pictured). "Often very small details can make an enormous difference to equipment and production costs later on. We're not trying to tell people how to do their jobs, they know their business; but unless a designer is fully familiar with the latest production techniques, it's easy to get things wrong." Modular's sales manager Mark Hendry adds: "We guarantee total confidentiality, and although we aim to forge new business relationships, no one using the service will be under any obligation to place work with us after the consultation."
