Storage capacity doubled

A Kasto Unibloc storage and handling system from Rivers Machinery has doubled the amount of steel that can be stocked by FH Brundle in the same floor area at its Southampton branch

The extra capacity allows slow moving steel items to be stocked alongside popular types, including round and square bar and tube, flat stock and angle from three to 15.5m long. A total of 85% of orders are now fulfiled from stock for delivery within 24h. Previously only 60% of orders were picked directly from stock

The Kasto equipment allows material between 4 and 8m long to be stocked to a height of 3m, and both the preparation for next day delivery and the putting away of steel when it arrives are much faster

Key to the speed of the system is the use of cradles to hold the stock and the latching mechanism on the Kasto spreader beam that allows one, two or three cradles to be lifted at a time.
