Chemical-free cleaner boosts washroom hygiene July 1st 2007 Southampton Solent
University has seen for itself
the benefits of using GPn2,
an all-encompassing hard surface
chemical-free cleaner from Green
Planet Solutions.
Instead of the more usual trial of
the enzyme-based product,
MacLellan included the University
in a trial comprising a washroom
which was heavily used throughout
the day and into the evenings.
The washroom chosen was the
003 gents' toilet in Delice de
France. Simon Lea Smith who
organised the trial brought in all
senior cleaning staff and the client
to show them the washroom in
normal use. They were asked to
rate the room on perception/
cleanliness between 1 (poor) and
10 (excellent). Although the
washroom had been recently
cleaned, the rating given was 1.
The training for GPn2 was
carried out that day, taking no
more than 15min. The washroom
was to be shock dosed at 1:4 for 5
days and then start the norma
daily treatment of 10:1. Removal of
all chemical products from the
cleaner's cupboard was paramount
as any contact with harmful
chemicals would kill the naturally
occurring enzymes within GPn2.
A key issue before the trial
started was the smell of the
washroom. The vinyl flooring
looked old and stained, as did the
sanitary ware. Tiles looked grubby
and grouting dirty.
Seven days later, there had been
dramatic changes. The stench had
gone and was replaced by a subtle
lemon fragrance. The washroom
looked brighter, and discoloured
sealant around sinks started to
look white again. The washroom
subsequently was re-rated 7.
MacLellan Managed Services is
now in the process of rolling out
GPn2 and the fabric cleaner GPn3.
The company says it will not be
necessary to order as much descaler
as GPn2 provides a
protection around surfaces such
that de-scaler does not need to be
used as often.
The cleaners find using just one
product is easier and more
productive than using three or four. |
