Harley Davidson Japan has taken delivery of a Thermoteknix VisIR Ti 200 thermal imaging camera.

The VisIR is a radiometric thermal imaging camera for predictive maintenance and R&D purposes.

One use for the camera is to evaluate before and after effects on riders' hands and faces when riding with and without a new design of windshield. It will also be used for laboratory testing and ongoing research into Harley engine performance.

Images taken with the camera are said to be impressive, showing first the Harley's engine block starting to warm up and then the heat gradually spreading down into the exhausts.

The camera takes thermal and simultaneous visual images which enable rapid identification of equipment.

The real time IR data acquisition and analysis system makes it possible to blend and fade visible and thermal images.
