Induction sealer aids efficiency March 1st 2007 Following extensive research and sealing trials, Lee Kum Kee, a Hong Kong based manufacturer of Chinese cooking sauces selected Relco to design and build a capless induction sealing machine. Until recently, the company had been hot filling a multi-layer PET bottle with oyster sauce, capping and passing through a regular induction sealer. Due to the requirements of the post filling process, the cap had to be removed for heat-treatment and replaced when finished. The new Relco capless induction sealing machine cuts the seal from reel-fed material, locates it on the bottle neck and induction seals it in place without the need for a cap. As such, the production process is more efficient as the bottles can go directly from sealing into heattreatment and are only capped when finished. A cost reduction in packaging components is made as the sealing material is purchased in bulk reels rather than pre-lined into the cap. The reel-fed foil lasts more than 27h in continuous production before reel change is required. The Relco FCS-Auto built for LKK is made to a food-grade design with stainless steel construction and IP55 rating, allowing easy wash-down. Other features include an over pressure enclosure with HEPA air filtration to ensure a clean sealing environment and a neck-support device to hold the transport ring on the neck of the bottle during sealing.
