Pumps help to ensure rapid drum unloading
November 1st 2011

Use of four MasoSine SPS pumps from Watson- Marlow Pumps Group in a bespoke drum unloading system allows Britvic to unload 200L drums of fruit juice concentrate, four at a time, in 2min. The company has been so impressed, it has enquired about further rigs.

Compere Systems is a specialist in control systems integration and the supply of turnkey projects. When it received an enquiry from the Rugby plant of Britvic, it first looked at drum tippers before recommending a bespoke pumping solution.

A custom rig uses four 5.5kW MasoSine SPS pumps which are piped to four suction lances mounted on a pneumatic cylinder. This allows simultaneous unloading of four, 200L drums.

The concept centres on a semi-circle configuration feeding six stations. At each station it is possible to datum a pallet holding four, 200L drums. The unloading head pivots in the centre of the semi-circle and can rotate to each position.
