Modular solution March 1st 2008 Traditionally pump manufacturers
have approached the bespoke
design of vertical sump pumps
from the ground up due to the
number of variants and
components involved, according to
Amarinth.
With ever increasing pressure to
shorten lead times, the company
decided to develop a modular
vertical sump pump that could be
configured to handle more than
100 000 variants.
Amarinth decided to adopt a
modular approach and, although
there were so many product
variants to consider, the designers
were able to break the product
down into just nine distinct
modules.
Following completion of the new
pump modules, BP approached
Amarinth with a problem: It had an
installation where 10m long pumps
were needed, but there was just 3
to 4m of headroom in the building
in which to raise them for
maintenance.
Using its modular approach,
Amarinth was able to deliver 80%
of the pump from its 'standard
library', while concentrating efforts
on a design that allowed shaft and
columns to be split every 2m so
that the pumps could be removed
in sections. More articles from Amarinth Limited: |
