For sensing and control March 1st 2004 ifm electronic will be using the Total Processing and Packaging 2004 exhibition (29th March to 1st April, NEC) to show some of its sensing and control equipment.
Imbalance or wear in bearings is detected and signalled by the companys efector octavis early enough for corrective maintenance to be carried out. The compact unit listens to the frequencies of the bearings and analyses vibrations, indicating early stages of wear with one output, while a second triggers when serious damage is imminent.
Also on show, the efector dualis comes in two versions: one reads the datamatrix two-dimensional codes increasingly used for product traceability; the second compares product shape for damage, completeness or orientation.
Plant monitoring is further enhanced by the efector metris which measures consumption of compressed air and indicates if there are any leaks. Transferring data to the central control room is the next step and with the sensors wired using AS-interface, the new version of ifm electronics master, the controller e, gives the user the option of an ethernet connection to the outside world.
