Latest routers extend network March 1st 2007 IT4Automation has introduced a range of SHDSL routers from ETIC Telecom, which enable an Ethernet network to be extended up to 13km over 1 or 2 telephone grade twisted pairs. Such devices are suitable for simple point-to-point connections and enable the user to save on the expense of installing fibre optic cable or wireless technology in order to link Ethernet networks over long distances around a plant. Often, the cable infrastructure of the plant can be used, giving the user even greater cost savings. Routers use SHDSL (Symmetric High-Bitrate Digital Subscriber Loop) technology (Part of the DSL family of communication protocols) to give high availability and secure Ethernet connectivity. They have an auto-adaptive data rate ranging from 128Kb/s to 2.3Mb/s (2 wire connection), or 128Kb/s to 4.6Mb/s (4 wire connection). The data rate adapts automatically according to the line quality and the distance between the remote sites. the product works like an Industrial Ethernet switch with additional IP router functionality built-in to control and limit unnecessary traffic over the SHDSL line. |
