Torque wrench range
May 1st 2008

A new gearbox design means new models in Norbar Torque Tools' range of Pneutorque pneumatic torque wrenches are now faster, lighter, smaller and easier to handle.

The 540-2700 N.m and 700- 3500 N.m PTM-92 will be followed shortly by the 900-4500 N.m and 1200-6000 N.m PTM-119 Series.

The PTM-92 3500 N.m model is half the weight and 60% faster than the nearest equivalent from Norbar's traditional range. Weight distribution is important for ease of handling, and research by Norbar has resulted in models with high strength, low weight aluminium reaction arms.

Speed and motor power have an effect on workshop efficiency, as testing at a wind turbine manufacturer proved. In the multistage tightening process of the 'shrink disc', on each re-application of the tool the Pneutorque moved the bolt 30° more than a competitor, resulting in the job being completed 25% faster.

Tools of this size are used in mining, wind generators and large off-road vehicles.

Tests were carried out using both an impact wrench and a Pneutorque tool to tighten 10 truck wheel nuts.

Results showed that, in terms of vibration, a user of the impact wrench would reach their daily exposure action value (EAV) in 8min, the Pneutorque operator could perform the task for more than 24 hours without breaching the EAV.
