Finds faults fast January 1st 2007 By combining acoustic, electromagnetic and timeof- flight measurements, Megger's new MPP1000 Pinpointer provides users a fast, accurate and convenient method of locating faults in high voltage cable networks. Designed to be compatible with almost any type of surge generator, the Pinpointer is rugged, weather-resistant and easy to use. Megger's MPP1000 Pinpointer is offered in three configurations. The entrylevel configuration comprises the receiver only. It measures the electromagnetic s urge produced by a cable fault, and provides amplitude information that helps in locating the fault. The second version adds a single detector unit that detects the acoustic signal (thump) produced by the discharge at the fault, and measures its amplitude. It also measures the time difference between the acoustic and electromagnetic signals, and uses this to calculate and display the distance to the fault. At the top of the range is a version with two /detector units. This configuration allows the instrument not only to calculate the distance to the fault, but also to indicate direction to fault.
