Disposal costs cut
November 1st 2004

Riello has supplied a custom-made dual fuel burner to use waste process fluid from Linpac Plastics’ polystyrene plant near Leeds.

The Riello GI/EMME 2000 can switch between using waste process fluid and gas. Linpac is committed to recycling and estimates that it has saved more than £1000 in waste fluid disposal costs every month, in addition to the £150 per day it saves when not burning gas.

The project started more than two years ago when Linpac asked Riello whether its burners could operate on waste process fluid. In trials, the fluid burnt well but, being a mixture of ethyl benzene and styrene monomer, it is potentially volatile and required a special pump.

The burner also required corrosion resistant steel components.
