Fire-rated enclosures May 1st 2008 Troax UK has installed a series of
custom-designed, fire-rated
enclosures to protect the baggage
handling system at Cork Airport's
new terminal building. The
enclosures surround baggage
conveyors to ensure the highest
safety standards and prevent
damage in the event of a fire.
Troax used its Excalibur, double
skin, modular steel partitioning to
construct the enclosures, which
surround three incoming and two
outgoing baggage belts, each of
which ascends from a baggage
handling area to new collection
carousels.
The enclosures (or dog-houses,
as they are known) are fire-rated
to 1h and extend to around 8.5m
in length and 2m in height,
enclosing each conveyor to
prevent any fire which might start
in the basement from reaching the
public area where the collection
carousels are located. There are
strip curtains at the end of the
enclosures.
Excalibur panels are designed
to meet fire resistance integrity
criteria specified in BS:476, Part
22: 1987 for a period of 60min. More articles from Troax (UK) Limited: |
