Silicone seal for comfort
January 1st 2008

James Walker Keaflex has been appointed by Scott Health & Safety to manufacture the coloured seal on the company's face mask. New injection moulding equipment was designed by James Walker Keaflex and manufactured in its in-house toolroom. The whole project involved producing seven new products in all, made from coloured liquid silicone and thermoplastic rubber.

"The tight deadline put our process engineering skills to the test," says Pete Smith, James Walker Keaflex business development manager. "We needed to convert some existing plastic machines over to liquid silicone technology, and we also installed a new higher capacity press for thermoplastic rubber." The silicone seal provides a comfortable fit for the wearer and minimises the risk of skin irritation.
