Gas detection strategy May 1st 2006 Athree year contract awarded 18 months ago by Southern Water to Draeger Safety Gas Detection Systems covered the replacement, maintenance and calibration of all Southern Water's fixed gas detection systems.
Replacing each of the existing detectors with the latest technology, ensuring compliance with all current legislation, Draeger's Total Care package also meant that all detectors and sensors would be guaranteed over contract's duration.
Offering flexibility for future regulation changes, the sensors reduce calibration intervals and traceability calibration data for each sensor. The costs would be fixed for the period of the contract and Draeger also provided the costs for maintaining the equipment for a number of years, post contract.
"I would certainly recommend this course of action to other utilities, said Mark Thompson, regional maintenance manager at Southern Water. "It ensures that all gas detection equipment is up and running when it is needed. In addition it is very comforting to know that the plant is going to work and that the costs are known for the length of the agreement and beyond."
Incorporating the Draeger Sensor Exchange Programme, the contract includes the supply and maintenance of the Regard 3800 controller with Polyton 3000 and Polytron 21R sensors.
