Fan-less smoke venting motors
November 1st 2006 New smoke venting motyors from ABB can now take advantage of the surrounding airstream for cooling when mounting inside a ventillation duct. The motors do not require fans or fan covers and the high air flow available from the main ventilation fan in many cases enables the motor rating to be increased without exceeding the motor's temperature rise limits. This means a smaller motor size can often be selected, saving cost. The motors are designed to mitigate the development of fires in industrial and public buildings, tunnels and other locations. They have dual-purpose certifictaion, enabling use also for standard ventilatio. The motors are tested to withstand temperatures up to 400°C for two hours and comply with European standard EN 12101- 3. The motors range from 0.55 to 560kW, IEC frame sizes 80 to 400.
