‘Possibly the most exciting development in personal safety for the electrical industry in a decade’ is how Cotec Technology describes its latest safety device.

Cotec Cricket warns personnel working near exposed high voltage equipment and power lines that the conductor they are approaching is live and dangerous.

When a high voltage source is detected, the device chirps loudly in a tone similar to its namesake. It also emits a red flashing light from a hyper-bright LED. Should the user proceed toward the source, the chirping gets faster until a continuous tone is emitted.

Developed in collaboration with Elec-track Installations, it can be attached to a hard hat or handheld.

Detection distance depends on voltage and other variables.
