Fashionable storage March 1st 2007 The opening of a new TNT Fashion Group distribution centre in Leicestershire marks the end of re-building works following a fire at the site and signals the creation of a larger, modern facility. AGF has been responsible for multi-level pallet racking in the reconstructed original building and in a new extension, and in the manufacture and installation of two three-tier mezzanines for garment hanging. It has also acted as principal contractor during the completion phase of the extension. This followed its involvement in initially meeting a rapid response requirement that saw racking and handling facilities installed in a temporary warehouse. An average day sees 85 containers deliver cartons for bulk storage, for order picking and for the company's fast response service. A shuttle car system locates 40% of the pallets in the extension; the remainder travel via connecting tunnel to the larger storage facility in the original building. This has 44 picking aisles 95m in length, each with 10 shelf levels to 12m high. The mezzanine provides 57 600 linear metres of racking, with a through-floor garment handling conveyor connecting each level. |
