Efficient use of space
November 1st 2004

Storage equipment from Link 51 has helped Siemens make efficient use of space at its variable speed drive assembly plant in Congleton, where 700 000 individual assemblies are produced each year.

Installations include four levels of pallet racking with bays that can accommodate three palletised cages.

These are enhanced by safety mesh backing at specific locations and are home to products and components adjacent to the production area.

In the latter, a number of production stations are kept supplied by tote bins that are fed onto a four-tier Link 51 product-live facility to ensure that interruptions in the production processes are avoided.

Siemens’ testing facilities have been relocated to a 6 by 30m mezzanine, also supplied by Link 51. The heavy duty design can accommodate some 12 individual testing stations, typically weighing 1.5t, while the uprights supporting the deck are positioned to maximise floor use below.
