Store & Sort System Supplied January 1st 2006 The Headlam Group, supplier of floor coverings, has invested in a storage and sortation system from Linpac Storage Systems for its Tamworth warehouse and distribution centre.
Racking for carpet and vinyl has been installed, together with narrow aisle racking for palletised goods. Serviced by wire guided trucks, the narrow aisle storage has a top beam 10m high.
Pick and deposit stations allow efficient handling of pallets into and out of storage. The addition of pallet support bars means Euro and standard pallets can be accommodated.
Carpets and vinyls are densely stored from floor to ceiling in the racking which has been configured to maximise the storage area.
Two metre high standing areas are included, together with special drive-through bays for the forklifts that deliver the products to the cutting tables.
Once carpet or vinyl has been cut to length, it is placed on a conveyor. This feeds it to the centre of the sortation system through a 360° scanner that measures the diameter of each roll. It is then positioned on an elevator that takes it to the correct location for despatch.
