One very tall order completed on time
May 1st 2005

When sculptor Danny Lane needed to move his latest commission from one end of the country to the other it was, quite literally, a tall order.

The artist, working from a studio in London, had completed a 12m high glass and steel sculpture to stand outside The Gate leisure complex in Newcastle city centre.

The sheer scale of the work and its inherent fragility meant considerable care was needed to move it. The contract was awarded to movement and plant handling company, Plant Movements, that has a specialist division for transporting and erecting largescale works of art.

It took the Plant Movements’ team a weekend to truck the sculpture, named Ellipses Eclipses, from Acton to Newcastle and install on site.

Andrea Prescott, who manages the Grainger town art project for Newcastle City Council, says “I would like to pass on my thanks to all involved for such a professional job. It went very smoothly and to time.”
