Optical tracking system
September 1st 2007

The new BPS 8 bar code

positioning system from Leuze

Mayser provides an optical

measuring method for monitoring

and controlling the position of railmounted

industrial trucks,

overhead carrier systems, hoists,

rack handling and similar

automatic transport systems to an

accuracy of ±1mm.

Accuracy and speed of data

transfer mean the BPS 8 will help

improve production flow control

and component tracking across

many industrial sectors. The BPS

8, which mounts directly on the

'workpiece' carrier, determines its

position relative to a bar code on a

plastic encoded tape [BCB] which

has a self-adhesive backing for

easy application to the carrier

gantry frame; it is estimated that a

tape measuring 100m in length can

be positioned around a path in

around 30 minutes. It allows both

vertical and horizontal corners to

be detected without defining a

preferred assembly direction,

which adds to flexibility of tape

positioning around the path.
