Picking trends
January 1st 2008 SSI Schaefer says that automation
is proven to optimise the supply
chain beyond the walls of the
warehouse and that new supply
chain concepts require new
technologies with different
management skills.
It points out that the most visual
change to follow implementation of
an automated picking machine is
the reduction in manpower and says
that an ergonomic environment
can save a distributor as much as
£8000 per lost employee at the
distribution centre level.
SSI Schaefer's ergonomic
picking stations include high picking
rates per picker per hour, low error
rate during picking and support to
the picker from devices such as
radio frequency, handheld
scanners and light sensors.
