Chemical-free limescale control treatment
May 1st 2007

As building operators seek to find more environmentallyfriendly solutions to limescale, Fluid Dynamics reports an upsurge of interest from the industrial and commercial sectors for its Colloid-A-Tron and Scaletron catalytic water conditioners.

Eliminating the need for aggressive chemicals and manual de-scaling, and requiring no power supply, the performance of these units has been verified during testing at UKAEA Harwell and they are backed by a one-year, no quibble guarantee.

More than 250 000 units have already been installed worldwide and, according to Fluid Dynamics, they have been proven to deliver a fast payback with low ongoing cost of ownership.

For greater peace-of-mind, the company subjects the water onsite to extensive analysis using a bespoke software package, before agreeing to supply units, thus ensuring the required levels of protection will be achieved.

Colloid-A-Tron and Scaletron catalytic in-line water conditioners incorporate a specially developed alloy which, when in contact with flowing water, generates an electrolytic action. This ensures that when the calcium carbonate in the water crystallises it forms soft aragonite crystals rather than the hard calcite crystals that build into limescale.

The soft aragonite crystals are flushed through the system and any deposits can be removed easily with a damp cloth.
