Starting to cut costs March 1st 2004 New AC electric motor soft-starters from Baldor are designed to reduce motor maintenance and electricity costs.
Two types are offered: an intelligent soft starter with keypad control that offers a high degree of programmability so that the starting profile can be optimised for particular applications; and a low-cost unit available in forms suitable for standalone connection or retrofitting inside motor cabinets.
The new modules for controlling three-phase ac induction motors are said to prevent the torque surges that can cause mechanical damage, and the generation of shock waves in the system being driven such as water-hammer in the case of a pump, for example.
They also limit the large inrush currents that cause voltage drops and impact on bills by increasing the peak starting current that the electricity network has to supply. More articles from Baldor UK Limited: |
