Cost savings particularly in multi-storey buildings November 1st 2007 Apractical approach to monitoring and targeting uses ESCOT Energy Smart clip-on transducers that are simply attached to phase cables without any supply interruption whatsoever. The ESCOT CTs transmit low voltage signals which are directly proportional to the true kWh energy consumption in that sector of the building's electrical distribution network. Low cost Belden-type cable can be routed rather like telephone wire, suspended over ceilings and via utility risers and so on to a collator unit which has plug-in connections for 36 ESCOT CTs. Distances in excess of 1km can easily be spanned without any degradation in signal accuracy. A major advantage claimed for the ESCOT is that no 230 or 415 voltage connections need to be made at each meter point. This is said to offer enormous cost savings for monitoring and targeting systems, particularly in multi-storey buildings. Up to eight Collators can be linked by RS485 for a 288 way Modbus system, or pulse outputs to BMS outstations are optional. Sinergy fully supports the system with on-line display and energy use analysis software purchased in modules to match the facility or energy manager's requirements.
